Hello my friends,
If you don’t follow me on Instagram or are off social media for the month (or forever), I wanted to share that I am teaching Mindless Writing again on February 2nd from 6-8pm ET.
I hoped this class would resonate with other people. And it did, in a much bigger way than I anticipated. January is a time of self reflection. For a lot of people it is a time of improvement or doing new things. In one way, I am perpetuating that with this class. In another, I am pushing back on the intentionality of it. I don’t want you to be mindful. I want you to be entirely mindless.
What that looks like for this class is exploring a technique to shake out those writing muscles and get into a flow of turn-your-brain off writing. Writing as movement. Automatic writing. We will work through some techniques to be a more present observer, to find a greater sense of wonder, and build stronger connections between your observations and memories.
The topic of Mindless Writing drew an unexpected number of sign ups and as a result I capped the number of sign ups, something I haven’t done before. I wanted there to be enough time for us to have rich discussions and generate work and two hours is not a lot of time. So, I decided to teach it again on February 2nd. I’m hoping there is space for everyone who is interested and while I am actively trying to unlearn the scarcity marketing tactics taught to me by a decade of working in advertising agencies, I do want to keep this group to around 15 people so if you are interested please let me know sooner than later. You can sign up by replying to this email or commenting below.
After class last Sunday several people reached out to share that they wrote poems for the first time in a long time or are working on a new story. “Creative bubble reformed!” my one friend messaged me. I, too, spent several hours working on my novel project this week with renewed vigor. I hope that everyone leaving class feels they learned something, feels creatively energized, and goes forth and writes.
I am planning some more classes for the weeks/months to follow. Some will be focused on those of you with specific writing project in the works who want greater feedback. While others will be for everybody, maybe even you.
I hope to see you on February 2nd!
Until then,
CM
